Utgangspunktet for fotoserien Play er en samling avisutklipp fra sportssidene i Berliner Morgenpost, klippet ut over en halvt års periode. Utklippene viser bilder av to eller flere motspillere i avgjørende øyeblikk av spillet. Konstellasjonene er skåret ut fra sin kontekst. Atskilt fra sin sammenheng fremstår spillerne som sårbare enheter med sine følelsesladede kropps- og ansiktsuttrykk. Sportsutøverens ansiktsuttrykk syntes å etterape sterk teatralsk lidelse eller opphisselse.
Utvalgte figurer er skåret ut og montert på metallstenger. Ved deretter å plassere stengene bakenfor hverandre til en helhetlig konstruksjon, skapes assosiasjonen til et kickerspill. Konstruksjonen blir en ny scene som har vært basisen for fotoarbeidet..
Tittelen Play henspeiler på spillernes nye setting som flyttbare figurer i et spill, men kan også oversettes som skuespill. Med det røde sceneteppe som omslutter figurene på stengene og den dramatiske belysningen, ledes tankene til det teatralske og forsterker muligens det melodramatiske og komiske i spillernes framtoninger.
I tilegg til fotoserien består prosjektet av en maleriserie på seks malerier i akryl på 90x70 cm.
Fotoserien ble vist på Teatergarasjen i Bergen der jeg var invitert som festivalkunstner under Oktoberdans 2004, og maleriserien ble utstilt på Oslo rådhus på utstillingen ”norske bilder” i 2005.

Play
The starting point for the photo series Play was a collection of newspaper cuttings from the sports pages in the Berliner Morgenpost, spanning over a period of half a year. The cuttings show two or more opponents in a decisive moment of the game. These constellations are then separated from their original context. Thus the players become vulnerable units, stripped to pure emotional bodily and facial expressions. Their expressions seem to mimic a strong theatrical suffering or agitation.
Chosen figures are cut out and mounted on metal bars. An association to a kicker game is then created by some bars being placed behind the others. The construction makes it into a new scene that forms the basis of the photographic artwork.
The title Play addresses the new setting for the players, in which they on one side are movable figures in a game, and on the other, actors in a play. Add to that the red curtain that encloses the figures on the bars, and the dramatic light, and thoughts are led towards the theatre, possibly further amplifying the melodramatic and comic appearance of the players.
In addition to the photo series, the project consists of a series of painting, six in total, in acrylic paint measuring 90x70 cm.
The photo series was exhibited on Teatergarasjen in Bergen, where I was invited as festival artist during the Oktoberdans 2004, and the series of paintings were displayed at Oslo city hall in the exhibition "Norwegian pictures" in 2005.
